Caribbean Cruise 2017
This year we went on a small ship cruise (Windstar) from Barbados to San Juan, Puerto Rico, calling in at small islands the big ships can't get to. We visited Bequia - St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Pigeon Island, St. Lucia, Les Saintes - Guadeloupe, Monserrat, St. Barts and overnight in port in San Juan. We loved the small ship experience and the islands were all special. Monserrat was the most interesting, as we arranged a private tour to the volcanic area in the south where the capital town, Plymouth was destroyed by the volcanic activity in 1995 and '97. We spent a few days in Barbados with friends Gord and Francie in their home there before the cruise and a couple of days in Old San Juan at the end of the cruise. An added bonus was a stop at a luxury hilltop rental villa, where Curtis needed to check out a car he was renting to a Canadian couple from Toronto which had some problem. They invited us to the veranda for a drink while we waited! They poured Julian a strong G&T at 3.00 in the afternoon! Lovely as it looks, the road up was precipitous with bends and potholes. We visited a lookout area further on up and got a wonderful 360 view.
